Fibrations

Fibre Content 2018

Juried Exhibition of Fibre Art at the Art Gallery of Burlington

The Fourth Biennial Fibre Content was, again, a collaborative effort of artists from Studio Art Quilts Associates (SAQA) – Central Canada, Burlington Fibre Arts Guild, Burlington Handweavers & Spinners Guild, Connections Fibre Artists, Grand Guild of Fibre Artists and Oakville Fibre Artists.

Viewers’ Choice

Approximately 2,500 visitors to the show cast approximately 500 Viewers Choice Ballots. As always, it was a challenge to choose a favourite among the 90 pieces on display made by 60 artists from across Ontario. While many pieces received between 5 and 10 votes, there were some clear, strong winners.

By overwhelming numbers, First Place was The Lighthouse Keeper by Mary Pal, who also received the next highest numbers for Second Place for her piece Corrosion. Third place went to Change Enables Growth by Tracey Lawko.

Runners up include Nine Patch on Jupiter by Micaela Fitzsimmons in fourth place with Do Not Disturb by Becky Hurwitz and Sunset Over the Village by Chris Liszak tied for fifth place. Deer Park by Mary Hopkins and Ode to Lavallee by Art KWilt Connections were tied for 6th place, followed by Highway of Tears, a group piece by 6 artists in the seventh.

All of the viewers’ choice ballots were entered in a draw, and each of the three winners received a $50 AGB Shop Gift Certificate and a SAQA Art Quilt Quarterly magazine. Congratulations to Nellie Hanuta of Guelph, Laura Brocklebank of Toronto, and Maxine Stubbert of Mississauga!

Jurors’ Choice

William Hodge selected Highway of Tears by Lorna Costantini, Debbie Eccles, Effie Faubert, Dorothy Holdenmeyer, Tara McInerney and Heather Salter; Elaine Cheasley Paterson’s choice was Rotary Swing by Tania Humphrey; and Susan Warner Keene’s choice was Nine Patch on Jupiter by Micaela Fitzsimmons.

Pieces sold during the show include works by Christine Chapman, Mary Hopkins, Chris Liszak, Renate MinOo, Mary Pal, Lorraine Roy and Monika Shedden.

Thank you, again, to the Art Gallery of Burlington for all the support they give to the show as the main opening host location and to the Haliburton School of Art + Design for their continued support. Our thanks also go the Battlefield Press for great job printing our show catalogue, laid out by Lebl Associates who also manage our Web site and entry process.
