Fibrations

Fibre Content 2016

Juried Exhibition of Fibre Art at the Art Gallery of Burlington

The Third Biennial Fibre Content was, again, a collaborative effort of artists from Studio Art Quilts Associates (SAQA) – Central Canada, Burlington Fibre Arts Guild, Burlington Handweavers & Spinners Guild, Connections Fibre Artists, Grand Guild of Fibre Artists, Group of Eight Fibre Artists and Oakville Fibre Artists. The show was seen by an estimated 3,000 visitors over 11 viewing days.

At the Show

Jurors’ Choice

Virginia Eichhorn’s choice was Spirit Guide by Dawn Labelle, William Hodge selected Royal Thistle by Helena Scheffer and Marion Perrault, and Rachel Miller’s choice was Yesterday’s News by Dianne Gibson.

Viewers’ Choice Selections

There were approximately 600 Viewer Choice ballots completed, and many visitors to the show said how difficult a choice it was – they had 10 favourites, not one! Some 150 of the completed ballots make up the highest 7 shown below, so rest assured many other pieces in the show garnered significant accolades as well.

The First Place went to Seaton Trail by Helen Garland. As a winner, Helen received our Affiliate Award – a one year membership at Craft Ontario. Craft Ontario is an organization assisting artists in all media to advance their paths as professional artists.

Runner-ups include, in second through seventh place: Spring Thaw by Tracey Lawko; Maid of the Mist by Jennifer Earle; Poppies Aglow II by Carolynn McMillan; Spur of the Moment by Art KWilt Connection (Judy Pearce, Nancy Winn, Ilene Atkins, Margaret Notar and Dorothy Holdenmeyer); Spirit Guide by Dawn Labelle; and Banyan by Anne Marie Patrick.

All viewers’ choice ballots were entered in a draw for SAQA Portfolio 20 books, and the winners were Brenda Siddall of Toronto, Laura Thomson of Niagara Falls and Natasha Puga of Milton.

CONGRATULATIONS to All!

Great Sales Results

The sale of numerous pieces was a very sincere vote of confidence for both the artists and Fibre Arts as the medium. Sold pieces included works by Irma Bull, Christine Chapman, Dianne Gibson, Judy Makinson, Monika Shedden, Karen Sirianni, and Catherine Timm. Our travelling selection also includes a number of pieces offered for sale, so the final result may be even better.

A big Thank You to all organizations and businesses for their continued support: Art Gallery of Burlington, Haliburton School of the Arts, Battlefield Graphics, Bead-dazzled, Flare Fabrics, Sew Etc., Spun Fibre Arts, Thimbles & Things and Zoetic.
