What Lies Beneath

Images of the volcanic eruptions in Iceland inspired this piece. The juxtaposition of lava, ice and rock evoked powerful contrasts. There is often fiery passions beneath icy exteriors.

I am drawn to work in textiles because it is complex, and messy, and fun. Just like life. I love the chemistry and serendipity of dyeing fabric, and the challenge of improving on those fabrics with further surface design. It is thrilling to see those fabrics come together to build one of my designs, and then ultimately to add the final layer of stitch.
